Welcome To FLYFISH SLOVENIA

Slovenia has a long living culture when it comes to fly fishing.

Former Yugoslavian’s president Josip Broz Tito was an avid fly fisherman and that reflects in the people that live along the rivers and lakes who have always been taking well care of the environment.

The combination of a perfect and intact alpine environment, climate, and philosophy makes this the best fly-fishing destination in Europe and one of the best in the world!

The varieties of waters rank from small alpine creeks, big freestone rivers, spring creeks, and lakes of all kinds and size. That, in combination with the available fish species, including brown-, brook-, rainbow trout, grayling, the Huchen (which is the Alpine strain of the Taimen), and Slovenia’s most famous and coveted trout, the marbled trout, make Slovenia a true fly-fisherman’s dream!

All fishing rights are managed by private clubs or the national fisheries institut, and river access is generous and granted almost everywhere.

Whether you are a seasoned angler or a novice, you can set the bar wherever you want and create your own unforgettable experience.

The Best Slovenian Rivers

Soca – This is one of Europe’s most beautiful and famous trout streams. Home of marbled trout, rainbow trout, and the Soca grayling.

Lepenja – Small and crystal-clear high-mountain stream, and a tributary to the Soca river. Located inside the Triglav National Park. Rainbows, grayling and marbled trout can be found here.

Idrijca – The largest Soca tributary. This is a lower elevation tributary with deep pools that hold some large marble trout.

Sava Bohinjka – A beautiful medium size trout stream that runs out of lake Bohinji. Rainbow trout, brown trout, grayling, and Huchen (the Alpine Taimen) can be caught here.

Savinja – A medium to small trout stream that hosts rainbows, browns, grayling, and huchen in the lower parts.

Krka – A source river in the rolling hills that contains brown trout, grayling, and rainbow trout.

Unec – One of Europe’s most famous spring creeks. The hatches are usually strong in May and two-foot browns are possible here on dry flies.

Baca, Radovna, Trebusa, Lucnica – These are small tributaries of the rivers above and are additional options when the water levels are above average.
