About The Fishing

Slovenia has a long living culture when it comes to fly fishing.

Former Yugoslavian’s president Josip Broz Tito was an avid fly fisherman and that reflects in the people that live along the rivers and lakes who have always been taking well care of the environment.

The combination of a perfect and intact alpine environment, climate, and philosophy makes this the best fly-fishing destination in Europe and one of the best in the world!

The varieties of waters rank from small alpine creeks, big freestone rivers, spring creeks, and lakes of all kinds and size. That, in combination with the available fish species, including brown-, brook-, rainbow trout, grayling, the Huchen (which is the Alpine strain of the Taimen), and Slovenia’s most famous and coveted trout, the marbled trout, make Slovenia a true fly-fisherman’s dream!

All fishing rights are managed by private clubs or the national fisheries institut, and river access is generous and granted almost everywhere.

Whether you are a seasoned angler or a novice, you can set the bar wherever you want and create your own unforgettable experience.

About Slovenia

The republic of Slovenia was constituted when it declared independency from former Yugoslavia during the civil war in 1991, making it one of the youngest countries in the world.

It is located in south-central Europe, between Austria, Italy, Hungary, and Croatia, where the Alps meet the Mediterranean See.

Slovenia appears like a ferry tail kingdom. Small and picturesque, with mountains and glaciers, rivers, waterfalls, forest, caves, castels, rolling hills with vineyards, and the Mediterranean coast.

The diversities in scenery, climate, and culture are without equal, considering that Slovenia is only about half the size of Switzerland.

The environmental agency strongly believes that an intact and diverse nature and environment have strong values to the economy and tourism takes a major part. Thirty five percent of the entire country’s land is under protection. Slovenia is also the first country in the world that declared water public property, banning it from becoming a commodity.

The capital city is Ljubljana and since 2004, Slovenia is a member of the European Union.

The national language is Slovene, and the currency is the Euro. There is no passport or border control if you enter from Austria or Italy. It is one of the safest European countries to travel. English is frequently spoken.
